Teach A Cooking Class

Teaching a Cooking Class can be fun and profitable. It's easy and inexpensive to start and you can get going in just a few days.

If you do not want to have them in your home, you can have the classes in the clients home or, better yet, in a Commercial Kitchen.

You can also contact the local community center. It is very easy to offer classes with their programs. Most of the time you will get paid monthly. But you could develop a mailing list of your clients and use the list for other services that you have to offer.

You will need to be very organized in this business. You have to have a lesson plan. I can tell you of the chaos there would be without one.

Make every class interesting. Your clients don't want to be bored so make sure you have lots of class participation.

I like the "teach by doing" approach. This is where you let the student do the work while you talk them through it. I find that the students remember more when they do it themselves than from watching.

Limit the number of students to what you can handle. I remember having 18 students (all 12-15 years old) at one time. It was way too much for me. So I downsized it to no more than 10.

The students learn more in small groups and you get to work with each one. Don't forget to include a lesson on sanitation.

You can make this a niche business as well. You can specialize in working with seniors- quick meals that don't involve much cooking at all. Teenagers, or young mothers are some other ideas.

Whichever you choose, you will need lots of patience and your passion for food should shine through.
