The Solopreneur at risk are particularly those who operate home-based businesses, are often loners with no support system in place, and often do-it-yourselfers who believe that they can do everything by themselves. The solution is to join or start a mastermind group. As a Solopreneur who has been a part of mastermind groups for many years, I can talk about the value based on my experience. Mastermind groups have been around since the early 1900s when Napoleon Hill introduced them as part of his think and grow rich philosophy. Check out the video of Napolean Hill talking about the value of a Mastermind group. This was a long time ago, but this is still very relevant today. about Mastermind groups consist of two or more people get together to share ideas, insights, and philosophies. Each group may serve a different purpose, but, like the gnome on the Travelocity commercials, they all say one thing: never roam alone. You’ve heard sayings like,” great minds think alike”, and this is the premise of a mastermind group. Mastermind groups are not like other networking and referral groups. The goal of those groups, for the most part, is to build the business by referral or networking. The mastermind group gathers to exchange ideas, make suggestions, and help each member to grow. Members should be like-minded; all offer different skill sets, and are serious about the purpose of a mastermind group. I have been a part of mastermind groups for as long as I can remember. Some did not last very long for one reason or another, and some were truly enriching. I know the value and suggest that every individual whether self-employed or otherwise engage in one or more mastermind groups. One caveat, be careful who you choose as part of your group, I have been in groups that ended up just being a social hour where everyone talked about their lives and other nonproductive topics. If you are joining a group, sit in for a couple of sessions to determine if this group is heading in the direction that you want. Forming a mastermind group can help you grow your business while you are helping others do the same. These groups give its members a reality check, identifies weaknesses and strengths, gives clarity, and also remind you that you really don't know what all. Some groups have paid membership and those that are not, rely on the word of others to show up on a consistent basis and to contribute to the group. |
